Trio Animæ was one of the most active and successful Swiss chamber music ensembles of its time from 1993 to 2010. The trio performed with a constant lineup featuring pianist Tomas Dratva, violinist Jean-Christophe Gawrysiak and cellist Dieter Hilpert. In hundreds of concerts across Europe and South America, Trio Animæ performed over 100 works for piano trio. In addition to classical literature for piano trio, Trio Animæ always focused on the music of the 20th and early 21st centuries. The artistic collaboration with many composers led to numerous world premieres – among them Vladimír Godár, Nadir Vassena, Pēteris Vasks, Peter Breiner, John Wolf Brennan and Daniel Schnyder. Trio Animæ also began an intensive engagement with the Tango Nuevo of Astor Piazzolla at a very early stage. Argentine cellist and composer José Bragato (1915–2017), one of Piazzolla’s first and longtime companions, played an important role. He wrote an extensive number of exclusive arrangements for piano trio for Trio Animæ. Trio Animæ built up a highly acclaimed discography. In this collection, PIANOVERSAL rereleases all studio recordings. The final album "ASTORology & OTHER RECYCLED TANGOS" (Vol. 9) is a first release: It is the final studio recording of Trio Animæ.
