The music of Tomi Räisänen is characterized by great diversity, an enormous wealth of colors and rhythms and a sense of form consistently tailored to each piece. The frequently awarded composer opens a large field for the performers with his gripping and imaginative music for quite different emotional states and poetic allusions. Among his most important works for piano are his monumental piano concerto "Sublunar Mechanics" (2011), the suite for piano "Open Your Head" (2014), the piano quintet (2005). Räisänen is also concerned with the possibilities of unconventional sound production on the piano, best heard in the work "Insiders" (2004), in which the interior of the piano is imaginatively explored by 3 players. Also, elements of electronics are repeatedly central to his works, for example in "Dreamgate" for 2 toy pianos, a singing pianist and electronics. Also in works for ensembles, the piano repeatedly plays an important role, such as the toy piano in "The Sauna of the 7 Brothers" (2010).
