Rodion Shchedrin
Rodion Shchedrin

*16.12.1932 Moscow

„The piano concerto was always my experimental field."

"I have been writing music for piano throughout my entire creative life."

For Rodion Shchedrin (Родион Щедрин) as a pianist, the piano has always been a particularly important instrument for his own music. He composed countless keyboard works and so far a total of 6 piano concertos. Shchedrin embodies an extraordinarily free, personal style - a synthesis between Russian tradition and many facets of modernity. With charm and irony, but also in the playful and experimental treatment of traditions, Shchedrin's music escapes all categorization.
