Born on June 21, 1899 in Brno - died on October 18, 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau
Unfortunately, the "Variations for Piano and Orchestra" by Pavel Haas, composed in 1944 in Theresienstadt, have been lost. Only the piano suite Op.13 and some smaller piano pieces, songs and some chamber music have survived for posterity. Two magnificent song cycles deserve particular mention: The "7 Songs in Folk Tone" and the late "4 Songs on Chinese Poetry". His popular Suite for Oboe and Piano from 1939 is very frequently performed.
