In 2019, PIANOVERSAL dedicated two albums to Swiss composer, pianist, and improviser Esther Flückiger, who lives in Milan. In "Verso Nikà," for piano, electronics, sound sculptures, and shell horn, Flückiger explores the theme of migration.
"Verso Nikà" was created for Esther Flückiger's project of the same name in collaboration with artists Karin Eggers and Susana Talayero, for performances in summer 2018 on the island of Pantelleria in the Sicilian sea channel. Flückiger's music is a sonic journey that reflects the current tragic situation of migration between two continents in many dimensions.
Electronic music in subtle mix with the intimate sound of the piano symbolically portrays the complex connection between the outer and inner worlds of migrating people in distress.
"The streams of refugees in recent years compel us to look at what is happening around us and show it to others. By all means, we must make processes clear that all too quickly disappear in everyday life." Esther Flückiger
"Esther's music is like an emotional journey through a glittering landscape." Giovanna Barbati
"Esther is a stream of energy, intuition, and creativity. She grasps every musical input, works it out, and guides it forward with her originality." Massimo Mazzoni
